Allergy and Sinus

Allergy and Sinus

Allergies and sinus issues are very common, both in adults and children. Unfortunately for some patients, sinus issues and allergies can cause additional issues, such as ear infections, upper airway infections and asthma. We have the professionals on staff at PaksEar, Nose and Throat  Hospital to help you improve your allergy and sinus issues.
Causes of allergies
It is difficult to pinpoint the reason why some patients are more susceptible to allergies than others. Some allergy sufferers only experience sinus and other airway issues during allergy season, when pollen from wheat, grass, hay and other crops is high. Allergies can also be triggered by pet dander, cockroaches, mold and mildew. When left undiagnosed and untreated, allergy issues and sinusitis can lead to potentially life-threatening issues, including asthma.
Asthma
Asthma occurs when the airways swell, which can make it difficult for air to get to and from the lungs. Asthma attacks are flare-ups of the swelling. When asthma attacks occur, the airways become restricted and the lung components tighten.
Symptoms of allergies and asthma
Common symptoms include:
Itchy, watery eyes
Nasal drainage and congestion
Wheezing
Fatigue during physical activity
Coughing
Tight feeling in chest
Shortness of breath
Treatment options
Treatment options depend on the diagnosis. An examination by an ENT will determine if a patient has asthma, sinusitis, upper respiratory infection or persistent allergies. A positive test result will lead to a treatment option, which may differ depending on the diagnosis. Treatment options include:
Desensitizing shots
Medications
Antibiotics
